The Houston Texans have restructured wide receiver Nico Collins’ contract, creating $9.8 million in cap space ahead of free agency, per multiple reports.
Collins, who signed a three-year, $72.75 million extension last year, had his $13.5 million base salary for 2025 converted into a signing bonus. The move lowers his original $18.44 million cap hit to $8.64 million, giving the Texans additional financial flexibility as they prepare for the new league year.
Restructuring contracts is a common practice for teams looking to manage cap space, and Houston now has roughly $18.1 million available. General manager Nick Caserio recently emphasized the importance of flexibility in free agency, noting that the team will be “opportunistic” in adding players that fit their roster and financial plans.
Collins had a breakout season in 2024, emerging as the Texans’ top receiving target and earning a Pro Bowl selection. With Stefon Diggs and Robert Woods set to hit free agency and Tank Dell’s recovery timeline uncertain, the Texans could look to bolster their receiving corps with the added cap space.
Collins remains a key piece of Houston’s offense, and the restructuring ensures the team retains financial flexibility while keeping one of their top playmakers locked in for the foreseeable future.
